Our statement

Every item sold by Shima's Creations is made by hand by an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, in Monument Valley, Arizona.

These are genuine Indian products as defined by the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 (P.L. 101-644). Nothing in this shop is imported, mass-produced, factory-made, or "Native-inspired." It is Native made, by one Diné woman, one piece at a time.

Why this statement exists

The market for Native American art and craft is heavily counterfeited. Imported imitations — often made overseas and sold as "Navajo style" or "Native inspired" — undercut real Native artists and mislead buyers who are trying to do the right thing.

The Indian Arts and Crafts Act is the federal truth-in-advertising law that draws that line. It makes it illegal to offer or display for sale any product in a way that falsely suggests it is Indian produced. Enforcement runs through the Indian Arts and Crafts Board at the U.S. Department of the Interior.
